Team

The Stadter Center’s team views our patients as a “whole” person, treating the cognitive, cultural, emotional, physical and social issues they face. Conditions often require the cross treatment of specialists, which is why our multidisciplinary team works together to empower patients to make positive, life changing decisions. The positive treatment The Stadter Center provides resonates through families, school systems, medical organizations and communities.

  • Dr. Thomas Peterson, MD, is a founding partner, Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director of The Stadter Center. Dr. Peterson received his Medical Doctorate at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine in Grand Forks, North Dakota. His specialty is General Psychiatry and he completed his Psychiatry Resident Program in 1994 at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. After founding the Center of Psychiatric Care, a private outpatient mental health clinic, he in conjunction with others, founded The Stadter Center, a private inpatient mental health hospital, which opened in May of 2000. Dr. Peterson is the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director, and works closely with the hospital’s administrative work team. A member of the American Psychiatric Association, he received his Board Certification in Psychiatry in 1996. A true entrepreneur, Dr. Peterson is involved in the development of other medical projects to enhance the medical park upon which The Stadter Center currently resides.

 

  • Bonnie Peterson, MSW, LICSW, is a founding partner, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Clinical Services of The Stadter Center. Peterson earned her MSW from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. She has over fourteen years experience in the mental health field. She coordinates the development, implementation and supervision of clinical programming.

 

  • Christel Welch, RHIA, is the Director of Medical Records and Privacy Officer, and Quality and Risk Manager for the hospital and directly supervises Medical Records and Health Unit Coordinator personnel. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Health Information Administration from The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. She is also certified as a Registered Health Information Administrator through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). She is an active member of the AHIMA, North Dakota Health Information Management Association, and American Society for Healthcare Risk Management.

 

  • Sarah Bernhardt, MA, LPC, is the Director of Education and Clinical Services and supervises licensed Occupational Therapists, Recreation Therapists and Master’s level Hospital Therapists. She has an active role in program and policy development for the hospital, and has five years of psychiatric experience. She is a member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and also serves on the Governing Board for the University of North Dakota’s Conflict Resolution Center.

 

  • Tammy Christenson, BA, is the co-founder of the Grand Forks-Eastern North Dakota affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and concentrates her volunteer work in Family Education and Advocacy services. Her education and fifteen years of experience in administration within federal and city agencies has led to her current position as Director of Admissions and Discharge with The Stadter Center where she supervises the Admissions, Access, Utilization Review and Social Work Departments. Tammy is a graduate of the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.


  • Gail Christopher, MSN, RNC, is the Director of Nursing and supervises a nursing staff of RN’s, LPN’s and Mental Health Technicians.  She has an active role in policy and procedure development for the hospital as well as ensuring that the nursing department adheres to the standards set by the ND Department of Health and Centers of Medicare and Medicaid.  She is a member of Sigma Theta Nu International Honor Society of Nursing and has 31 years of experience as a nurse.



  • Darin Ohe, CFO,, is the Chief Financial Officer.  Darin generates all of the financial analysis reports for The Stadter Center.  In this role he also oversees the accounting, patient biling, and purchasing functions.  Darin has worked in various healthcare administration and finance positions over the course of 11 years.  He received a Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration from Concordia College and received his MBA in Finance from the University of Minnesota.


  • Lisa Warner, Director of Public Relations for the The Stadter Center, has her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of North Dakota and is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. She has over 10 years of psychiatric experience working with individuals, families and groups. She also co-facilitates the Psychodrama Group at The Stadter Center.

 

  • Dan Bjerknes is the Director of Human Resources and Physician Recruitment. He has a Master's Degree in Counseling from the University of North Dakota and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Dan has an active role in policy development, staff training and building and environmental safety. He oversees Environmental Engineering and Payroll. Dan is an Associate Member of the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation and has three articles published at Mediate.com. He has presented numerous times at international and national conferences on conflict resolution and mediation.
